About Elementary School
Small class sizes and innovative teaching methods enhance the quality of education. At the elementary school, teachers closely monitor each child’s progress and tailor their approach to meet their needs, stimulate their curiosity, and ignite a desire to learn. The elementary school welcomes students aged 6 to 11 across five grade levels.
French School Accredited "Ersatzschule"
Our elementary school offers two programs, both accredited as ‘Ersatzschule’ by the Land of Hesse authority. Mastering French and German is a priority in our school, as is learning the basics of mathematics and civics. There is also a strong emphasis on English language learning, the sciences, physical education, as well as artistic and cultural education.
Languages in Elementary School
The Lycée Français International Victor Hugo offers French and German language instruction from elementary school, with two bilingual pathways available.
In addition, all students begin learning English in CP (1st grade). From CE2 (3rd grade), they receive two 45-minute English lessons per week. To encourage active participation and personalized learning, classes are divided into smaller groups once a week.
Elementary School Structure
In France, primary education encompasses both Maternelle (kindergarten) and elementary school. It is structured into three educational stages, known as cycles (key stages), which ensure continuity and coherence in children’s learning and development:
- Cycle 1: Early-Learning Cycle in Maternelle
- Cycle 2: Fundamentals Learning Cycle from CP to CE2 (1st to 3rd grade)
- Cycle 3: Consolidation Cycle from CM1 (4th and 5th grade) to CM2, 6e (6th grade) in middle school is also part of Cycle 3.

The Lycée Français International Victor Hugo meets the needs of children whose education requires special attention, both in primary and secondary education.
