How is the LFIVH school calendar planned?

The calendar is planned by the LFIVH management, in consultation with:

  • the school’s governing bodies (secondary school council, school council and school board – Conseil d’établissement),
  • the AEFE,
  • the teaching teams.

Why isn’t our school calendar aligned with the German school calendar?

On the one hand, the LFIVH must comply with French requirements: the length of the school year, balanced learning periods (seven weeks of class followed by two weeks of holidays in autumn, at Christmas, in winter, and in spring), the number of teaching days, and national examinations.

On the other hand, the dates of the summer holidays in Hesse vary from year to year, creating discrepancies with the rest of the holiday periods.

Long weekends and teacher development days are therefore planned carefully to minimize the impact on learning.

When is the calendar made public?

The provisional calendar for the following school year is presented to the School Board in autumn. It is submitted for review to the French Ministry of Education, the French Embassy in Germany and the AEFE management. The final calendar is published once it has been approved by all relevant authorities.

A provisional version is posted before the Christmas holidays and the final version is posted in spring.
