German Option
The German option comprises one group per level, with a maximum of 25 students. German is the language of instruction for Sachkunde (General Studies/Social Studies), Art, Physical Education, and Music, while Mathematics is taught in French. Students develop literacy skills in both languages, learning to read and write in French and German.
Only children who meet the required level of proficiency in German—often native speakers—are eligible to join the German option, subject to availability of places.
Features of the German Option
Course Guidance at the End of CM2 (5th grade)
Children from the German option join the German International Section in middle school.
Whole-Class Instruction in French
Unlike the French option, the class remains undivided. However, like in French option classes, children follow the French curriculum for cycles 2 and 3 (key stages).
Whole-Class Instruction in German
Children also follow the Hesse Kultusministerium curriculum in German and non-linguistic subjects. The Hesse educational materials used in all German schools are also used in the German option.
