Why Choose Maternelle?

Maternelle (the French kindergarten system) is a vibrant space for discovery, exploration, and socialization. It represents a key stage in preparing children for primary school, where they take their first steps on their learning journey, build confidence, and develop essential autonomous learning skills.

From the age of three, children step into a bilingual environment where they build the foundational skills for their educational journey through a rich variety of playful, creative, and sensory activities.

Why Choose Maternelle?

  • Small, Nurturing Groups – Classes of 15 to 20 students ensure personalized attention.
  • Expert Supervision – A certified French teacher, supported by experienced teaching assistants, guides each child. Our team is fully trained and qualified in early childhood care.
  • Bilingual Learning – French and German lessons are taught by native-speaking staff, with additional tutoring available to support non-French speakers.
  • Learning Through Play – Our educational curriculum emphasizes hands-on exploration, recreational activities, and experiential learning, fostering curiosity and autonomy from an early age.

Main Objectives in Maternelle

Throughout these three years, your child will benefit from:

  • A stimulating environment – thoughtfully organized to encourage autonomy, exploration, and first meaningful experiences.
  • Guided discovery – carefully designed activities help children develop new ways to engage with their surroundings through play, verbal expression, group interaction, sensory exploration, and motor skills.
  • Foundations for learning – reading, writing, and counting are introduced through a balanced mix of teacher-led, semi-guided, and free-play activities, tailored to the day’s pedagogical objectives.

Languages in Maternelle

Petite Section (first year of kindergarten) – In this foundational year, classes are led either by the French teacher, supported by a German teaching assistant, or are regularly co-taught by a French and a German teacher several times per week. The teaching assistant is actively involved in all classroom activities and, under the teacher’s guidance, provides close support to students, ensuring individualized attention and a nurturing introduction to the learning environment.

Moyenne and Grande Sections – During these years, a German teacher delivers language sessions in small groups and takes part in a variety of classroom activities, further strengthening bilingual exposure. In addition, a teacher specialized in French as a foreign language may work regularly with a small group of students on targeted French language activities, in close consultation with parents and the classroom teacher to ensure tailored and coherent support.
